Kansas City Royals Lose Late Lead and Fall to the Astros, Injuries Mount

Royals' Late-Inning Meltdown Costs Them a Win

New Injuries Compound Team's Woes

After leading most of the game, the Kansas City Royals saw their lead slip away in the late innings, ultimately losing to the Houston Astros.

The Royals jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning off Astros starter Justin Verlander.

However, the Astros chipped away at the lead, scoring two runs in the second inning and tying the game in the fifth.

Royals Struggle to Hold Onto Lead

The Royals took the lead back in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Astros would not go away.

Houston scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 6-3 lead.

The Royals managed to get one run back in the bottom of the inning, but it was not enough.

The Astros added two more runs in the top of the eighth inning to put the game out of reach.

Injuries Pile Up

In addition to the loss, the Royals were also dealt a blow on the injury front.

Pitcher Brad Keller left the game in the third inning with a forearm strain.

Outfielder Andrew Benintendi was also forced to leave the game in the seventh inning with a hamstring injury.

The Royals are already without several key players due to injury, and these latest setbacks could make it difficult for them to compete in the AL Central.
