OPP continues search for missing woman after kayak incident on Ottawa River

Missing Westmeath woman identified after kayak incident

Ontario Provincial Police are continuing to search for a woman who went missing after a kayak incident on the Ottawa River on Tuesday, June 28.

The woman has been identified as 29-year-old Justine Johnson of Westmeath.

OPP assisted rescue efforts by Ottawa Fire Services

Johnson was kayaking with a friend when their kayaks capsized around 8:30 p.m. near Britannia Beach.

Johnson's friend was able to swim to shore and call for help.

Ottawa Fire Services responded to the scene and rescued the friend from the water.

OPP divers continue search for missing woman

OPP divers have been searching the area for Johnson since Tuesday night.

The search has been hampered by strong currents and poor visibility in the water.

The OPP is asking for the public's help in locating Johnson.
