WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden is standing firm against calls for him to drop his bid for a second term, even though some in his party have asked him to step back.

In a letter to congressional Democrats, Biden said he has “no intention” of dropping out of the race. He said he is “more determined than ever” to win reelection and “build on the progress we have made together.”

Biden’s decision comes as some Democrats have expressed concerns about his age and his low approval ratings. Some have suggested that he should step aside and allow a younger candidate to run in his place.

But Biden has said he is confident that he can win reelection. He has pointed to his accomplishments in office, such as passing the American Rescue Plan and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

Biden is also counting on the support of his base. A recent poll found that 86% of Democrats approve of the job he is doing.
